– 4WD Ridge Top Tour
A highlight of today would be the 4WD Ridge top
tour.
In order to protect the land from
accidental introduction of weeds, they only allow their own vehicles to travel
this track, left by the mining exploration teams in the 1970s – and were we
glad! The trip was 4 hours over very
steep, rough mountain tracks through stunning stark scenery.
The guide/driver did a wonderful commentary on
the area, history, geology, characters, and bad mining companies who tried to
dump radioactive waste while ostensibly prospecting for uranium.
We ended up on the top of an incredible ridge where,
besides being served with lamingtons for afternoon tea, we had the most
stunning 360 degree views.
On the way down we saw a yellow footed rock
wallaby which was previously endangered and is now recovering – such a lovely
animal.
That night we had a massive thunderstorm with a
wonderful light display.
