Flinders Ranges – Walking the Tracks
Today is our first day of not driving anywhere
– very lovely relaxing day. We walked an
easy track up to the Hill’s homestead and watched an Echidnae cross our path
and disappear into the bush.
The Hills boys certainly had it tough trying to
grow wheat and making their own roads which kept getting washed out and coping
with drought and flood.
Climbing up to
the top of the ridge to the Wangarra lookout give amazing views of the inside
of Wilpena Pound and the Hills homestead from the lower lookout.
Mel’s knee survived the climb and descent, and
starting a wood fire on our return helped to relax our muscles. Thanks to the
campers who gave us their left over wood.
Lovely to see the wildlife (the roos) bouncing through the camp grounds.
Just before bed time we made the terrible
discovery that Mel had rolled the bed up with the hot water bottles
inside. Unable to deal with the pressure
one leaked and all the bedding was drenched!
Fortunately there was a dryer in another campsite some distance
away. Intrepidly, we set off on a cross
country walk in the pitch dark carrying our bedding and eventually came across
their laundry and were able to dry our bedding out in time for a late sleep –
we were so grateful for that dryer!
