In spite of our early night and the heat, we
didn't wake until 8.00am - that's a big sleep in in WA, where the sun comes up
at 5.30am!
We headed to Zebedee Springs, just a short,
easy track to a hot water spring that flows down the gully in a series of
pools. It's all completely shaded by Livistonia Palms, which only grow here and
Purnalulu. We found a vacant spot under a water fall and enjoyed a lazy couple
of hours, until they closed it at 12.00.
After lunch ,we drove around and explored,
seeing the Chamberlain Gorge, which has a river running through it. Next we
went to the junction of the Chamberlain and Pentecost Rivers for Rodger to get
us a barra. Sadly the only bites he got were mozzie bites!
When we arrived back at the camping ground and
Rodger went to put the roof up, he saw why this had been more difficult for the
last couple of nights. As it was daylight, he saw that a whole bracket that
holds the roof up had fallen off the passenger side. This was very bad news,
but at least the bracket was still attached, hanging by one screw! It probably
happened on the road from Purnalulu as it was very rough and corrugated. Rodger
was able to get some more bolts from the maintenance shed and set about
replacing it . It turned out to be an almost impossible task as there was no
space to get a screwdriver in behind the screw while he tightened the bolt on
the front. After many frustrating attempts, he achieved this by holding a drill
piece in an adjustable spanner, while standing on a garbage bin so he could
reach!
After this, he had another arduous task ,to
tuck the canvas back into the surround, using a stubby screwdriver. This
process took the whole evening. We were very glad it happened before we set out
into the wilderness!
