Rodger was up at 5.30am to go fishing before we
set off for Mitchell Falls -he caught 7 Sooty Grunters and 2 turtles! He put
the turtles and the little ones back, but there was a big one for our dinner
tonight.
Only 3 Kms from last night's camping ground
were some more Aboriginal paintings and also a burial site. We enjoyed walking
around and finding them.
Again we're so lucky because the road to
Mitchell Falls is also being graded, so our first 71 of the 83kms was a good
run. We met the grader man on the way and thanked him heartily for his good
work.
We're proud of our little car for making it all the way here and very thankful to God that it was without incident.

The Mitchell Plateau gets the highest rainfall
in WA, 1400mls a year, so it's like an oasis in the arid region around it. The
road runs through alternating savannah woodland and tropical rain forests of
eucalypts and fan palms, with the occasional breathtaking view of the plains
below.
When we arrived at Mitchell River we set up
camp, had our lunch and walked down to Merten's Creek for a swim. It was a big
pool at the foot of a water fall - very shady and cool.
When it got dark we lit a campfire, so we could
cook our fish. It was so peaceful sitting there, with our jacket potatoes and
fish baking on the hot ashes and watching the stars and a slither of a moon.
Later, when the billy was boiling for tea, our
neighbours, Greg and Di came and joined us. We had already met them at
Ellenbrae.
