Tues 3 Sept 2013 – El Questro Gorge and Moonshine Creek

Today we got up early to do another walk to El Questro Gorge. The road to the start of the walk included 2 creek crossings and one was long and deep. We didn't know if our car could make it so we waited until another car came along and watched them go through, to see how deep it was. It was up to the top of the wheels so we decided to give it a go and all was well. We also decided we didn't want to do it again tomorrow, so we'd do both the walks that started along this road today!

The first walk was nice and shady and ended with a swimming hole. We finished at 10.30am but when we got back to the car, we found that the gear lever had locked up and we couldn't get into any gear when the engine was running. So Rodger put it into first gear and then started the engine and this seemed to free it because it was Ok after that.

We headed for the next walk, Moonshine Creek, which was also described in the brochure as shady. Unfortunately, this was not so, and as the heat built up to 38C it became hard work as, again, it was mostly rock hopping. However, we saw lots of butterflies and many shimmering dragonflies of bright blue, red and green and there were swimming holes halfway and at the end, so it was worth it.

I was a very tired bunny that night and so, even though there was a really good guitarist playing in the bar, who we could hear clearly in the camping ground, I kept falling asleep after dinner.
