We got up early today as we wanted to snorkel
at Oyster Stacks and this is only possible at high tide, which was 9.15am. Even
at high tide, we were very close to the coral and therefore the fish. They were
swimming around right in front of our masks and it was great to see them so
closely. I saw a squid scuttling across the sand on his legs, chasing some
small fish. They shot under some coral and he tried to reach but couldn't so he
gave up and pulling his legs in behind his body like a torpedo, he swam off. We
saw some new fish we haven't seen before and some starfish too. There was more
live coral here than the other 2 places, green, purple blue and white in all
different shapes. We were in for about an hour and a half but then were cold.
We went
home via the tap and today saw a whole lot of little finches, grey, with red beaks.
it's a very good spot for seeing wildlife.
Back at Ned's, our camping ground, we had lunch
and Rodger decided to go fishing at the next beach along and I stayed to do
some washing. By now the wind was very strong, great for drying the washing,
and then I sat and read an interesting novel called "Tears of the
Moon", which is set in Broome and about pearling in the early 1900s.
Rodger nearly caught a fish with his first
cast. He had it on the line and saw it jump when he was reeling it in, a big
one, but it got away and then, in spite of more bites, he didn't catch any -
luckily I'd cooked a spaghetti Bolognaise for dinner.
