What a good recommendation Gunlom turned out to
be! (aside - Mel has this thing about explanation marks !!!!!!!!!!! she likes putting them in everywhere). After about half an hour’s steep climb we
arrived at the top of the waterfall and followed two elderly ladies from Darwin
who came here regularly. They led us to
the most beautiful pool where we swam up the gorge as saw a small waterfall,
picnicked and chatted with the ladies.
We could see 3 interlinked pools just below and
while we were swimming there we were fortunate enough to see a Water Monitor
(lizard) swim by us and climb up on the rocks to sun himself.
While we were watching him we met a couple in
the pool who told us about another larger pool past the top water fall- so we
headed off the find it. Sure enough it
was a large pool ringed with trees which just invited us in again. We are so glad to be able to swim again after
4 weeks of no water.
Amazing termite mounds all along the road again
– but ginormous!
Beautiful flowers and kapok bush which helps tell the seasons and the times for various things such as when the crocs will lay their eggs and when the eggs are ready to hatch.
We finally clambered down the steep path and
set off for Barramundi Gorge (Maguk). On
the way we were able to assist a man who had broken down up the 4wd track. Bryan you would have been proud of me as I
tightened the battery terminals and got him going – also he has serious oil
leakage problems. Due to this delay we only
arrived at the camping ground covered in dust to have a cold drink in the shade
before sunset and dinner – a mixture of the last three nights leftovers poured
over pasta – surprisingly delicious!
