Remembering our men’s group that meets at
6:30am today and also praying for our Scripture Classes at Bronte – hi to you
all – also to Carol, Kevin, Denise & Lydia – also hi to Amy our lovely class
teacher.
During the night we heard lots of hee-haws
which happened to be a nerd of wild donkeys – about 20 of them which is a much
nicer sound than the dingos howling.
Before dawn I set off again fishing for barra. The river had mist coming off it and it was
quite errie having this swirling mist around you while fishing – no bites but
plenty of casting practice!
As we were leaving we called in to try and get
a home made Mataranks pie. Yes I know it
was expensive at $7.50 but was it worth it – huge, full of tender steak with
not a shred of grissle and so delicious – it wins the Aussie pie award so far
in our travels – although the Cobar pie still is the best mincemeat pie to
date.
Off to Katherine and on the way visited the
Cuta Cuta Caves which were given back to the indigenous people in 1979. Lovely formations which were desecrated by
the army who used the stalactites for target practice in the 1940’s using
303’s. Met up with John and Helen again
here.
Arrived in Katherine – off to the hot springs
which were nice but not as lovely and as warm as the Mataranka Springs.
Now out to Katherine Gorge where we found the campground
and went straight for the pool! Can’t
believe the price of $38 for a national park unpowered site! But beautiful surroundings.
We have been seeing this great 4wd car called
“Jurassic Park” at various places and they have been waving at us too. We finally met the owners, Annabella and
Claudio from Italy, when bbqing tonight. Claudio
has been saying to Annabella how much he loved our VW and keeps taking photos
of it – and we said how much we liked their van too! We had a nice chat and are now getting out blog
uploaded and then off to bed.
