Wed 21 Aug 2013 – In search of Barramundi

My reward for working hard on the tax was to have a day’s fishing.

We headed for Batchelor for some supplies and saw this mum and foal in the front yard.

We headed for the Douglas River first as the guide books say its bristling with barra.  Unfortunately they didn’t meantion that there was no water left in the river.  Undaunted we found a water hole at “The Arches” and started fishing.

On the second cast I hit a snag and lost my one and only lure.  It was either swim down and rescue it and maybe be a croc’s lunch or seek another lure.  We choose the second option which entailed a 2 hour drive! – couldn’t believe that the Douglas/Daly resort didn’t stock any fishing tackle whatsoever, when it’s their whole livelihood.

So off to the opposition – to Perry’s on the Daley river.  This was a great place where Dick and Carol allow people to camp on their property by the river which had lots of water and big crocs in it.

They had a whole shed full of fishing lures and tackle – which was good as I went through plenty!  We arrived just before dusk so I enjoyed losing three lures to those snags again.

As it was 39 degrees Mel was happy to cool off in the pool and to check on me every so often.
