Wed 7 Aug 2013 – Walking Katherine Gorge

So thankful to God for another beautiful day.

Mel and I set off for the Southern walks along Katherine Gorge.  Met two lovely people on the way, Ian and Cheryl, who we chatted to for the first leg of the walk.

We then headed off on the Windolf track to find the waterfall and waterhole.  On the way the lookout provided magnificent views over the gorge.

It was hard yakka going down the side of the gorge and rock-hopping many boulders to get to the Water hole – unfortunately no waterfall (only a trickle).

The water was stagnant but for us it provided a welcome relief and cool off as it was about 35 degrees and we had been walking for 2 hours.  Also we felt safe from crocs as there was no way in for them.

Decided to take the long way home and complete a loop track back to the camping ground via another great lookout over the gorge.

We finally arrived back after 5 hours of walking and were so glad to fall into the rather luxurious swimming pool at the camping ground – rather than with the crocs in the river.

This camping ground- while expensive wins the prize for the best showers yet and provides free washing machines.

Lovely to Skype Mum and Peter prior to their rellies tour.  Also caught up with Annabella and Claudio over the bbq again and in the camp kitchen where we’re charging our electrical gadgets and using the internet.

There are many wallabies wandering around the campsite at dusk – they like the grass and the seeds from the many trees in the park and licking the water off the sprinkler heads.  Love this shot of the wallaby mum with joey.

An early night tonight as we’re exhausted!
