We were glad to get up and get going, trying to
get an early start before it was too hot. We'd decided to go along the old Jim
Jim road to see some Billabongs, hopefully full of lilies.
The road was unsurfaced but not to corrugated,
so we went to Red Lily Billabong but were disappointed as there were mangroves
all round it so it was hard to see and we couldn't go into the mangroves
because of crocs.
We finally found a space but most of the lilies
had already bloomed and died. We set off to Alligator Billabong but came to a
deep creek crossing so decided not to continue.
When we got back to the highway, we went to a
nearby resort to put air back in the tyres ( we always let them down to 25 on
unsurfaced roads) The Resort had a pool which looked so inviting that I asked
how much to camp and was surprised it was only $14.50 each for a powered site.
We decided on a night of luxury after being so uncomfortable the night before.
We had a swim, then Rodger cleaned the dust off the car and I cleaned the
inside - it was filthy! There was also a washing machine so we were able to wash
all our clothes and bedding- then we had another swim!
There were hardly any mossies tonight and it was much cooler, what a relief!
